The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced that it is actively investigating a total of 29 cases related to allegations of corruption during the presidential election.

Of the 61 cases brought to the ACC’s attention, three were filed by political parties, four were submitted by the Election Commission’s Complaints Bureau, while 26 cases were lodged by private individuals.

Additionally, 28 cases were sent anonymously, further highlighting the seriousness with which allegations of corruption are being addressed.

Key issues that have come under scrutiny during these investigations include:

1. The elimination of the garage permit requirement during the election.

2. The introduction of a MVR 10,000 fee for taxi registration.

3. The proposed increase in the old age allowance to MVR 7,000.

4. Considerations regarding interest deductions on loans for small businesses.

5. The provision of allowances for principals working outside their home villages.

6. The decision to grant step allowances to judicial employees.

7. Various aspects of the Binveriya scheme.

Furthermore, ACC has issued a call to action, urging citizens to abstain from engaging in any form of bribery or corruption during the forthcoming stages of the presidential election.
