The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has disclosed that a significant portion, amounting to 59 percent, of individuals listed under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme as flat recipients do not meet the stipulated eligibility requirements.

In a press conference, the ACC has shared the outcomes of its investigation into complaints lodged concerning the allocation process of flats under the former government’s Gedhoruveriya housing initiative.

According to ACC’s revelations, a thorough scrutiny of 4,048 application forms revealed that 59.6 percent of these submissions failed to satisfy the essential criteria for flat eligibility. This discrepancy accounts for approximately 2,400 flats.

Further analysis divulged that 20.7 percent of the reviewed forms met the eligibility standards without any additional concerns, while 19.7 percent fulfilled the criteria but were marred by supplementary issues. This equates to around 1,600 flats.

The ACC elaborated on the term “forms meeting the criteria but having other issues,” citing instances of erroneous information, conflicting data, deviations from policy guidelines in sections pertaining to special needs, and other discrepancies in point allocation.

Moreover, the ACC noted instances where new documentation was furnished during the complaints period for some of these forms.

Instructing the Housing Ministry, the ACC outlined five factors to consider in the adjudication process for flat issuance.

Responding to the ACC’s findings, the Housing Ministry announced on Thursday evening that it has initiated deliberations and pledged to unveil its decision later this week. The ministry convened a meeting with the ACC today to seek further guidance on the matter.
