Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police by President Mohamed Muizzu, marking a leadership transition within the Maldives Police Service.
According to the police, Ahmed, who has served in the police force for over 30 years since joining in 1995, has held several key leadership roles spanning both operational and investigative policing. His appointment elevates him from his previous role as Assistant Commissioner to the top post in the service.

Academically, Ahmed holds a Master of Shari’ah and a Bachelor of Shari’ah (Honours) from Villa College.
The appointment follows recent changes in the leadership of the police service. Former Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, the second commissioner under the current administration, retired from the force in February. Subsequently, Farhad Fikury was appointed as acting commissioner.
Farhad’s tenure drew scrutiny following allegations linked to an incident last year involving his son. It was claimed that after his son was arrested for assaulting a police officer while under the influence of alcohol, Farhad attempted to use his official position to secure his son’s release.
