Adam Naseer Joins List of Resigned Ministers as More Than Half the Cabinet Steps Down
Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer has also resigned, joining a growing wave of Cabinet departures that has now risen to 10 ministers, amounting to more than half of the government’s Cabinet.
With his resignation, the following ministers have now stepped down:
- Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim,
- Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Dr Maryam Mariya,
- Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon,
- Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed,’
- Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar,
- Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel,
- Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham,
- Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed,
- Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim,
- Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer.
Following the resignations, the President’s Office has issued a statement confirming that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has accepted the resignations of the 10 ministers, stating that the changes are being made in line with the wishes of the public.
The statement also said that the President expressed his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service.
The developments come amid a wider wave of resignations and dismissals across state institutions following recent electoral setbacks for the government, including the April 4 referendum on merging parliamentary and presidential elections, as well as losses in local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
