The Addu City Council has announced the invitation of bids for the lease of land to develop and operate tourist guest houses and city hotels in Hulhudhoo, Addu City.
The council stated that the project aims to create job opportunities, reduce youth unemployment, and stimulate Addu City’s economy by encouraging private sector investments in local tourism.
Interested local and foreign investors have been invited to submit proposals to develop tourist guest houses and city hotels within a designated tourism zone. This zone, situated at the southern tip of Hulhudhoo near Canareef Resort, comprises 4.65 hectares of beachfront land allocated for guest houses, hotels and associated support services.
The plan includes a total of 13 plots for development, with six plots allocated for ten-room guest houses, four plots for 15-room guest houses, and one plot for a 25-room guest house. Additionally, one plot has been designated for the development of a 60-room city hotel and another for a 35-room city hotel. The announcement provides details on the areas, lot numbers, and a land allocation chart specifying the sizes of each plot.
The land will be leased for a maximum of 50 years. Interested parties may obtain further information, inspect, and purchase the bidding documents from 3 July to 13 July 2025, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Currently, Addu City has three operational resorts alongside existing guest houses. The government has been actively working to expand tourism in the region, having already designated new tourism zones and initiated related development plans. Among these is the Hankede Integrated Tourism Project, considered the largest tourism development in Addu City to date, along with proposals for tourism projects on three reclaimed islands and a separate coastal tourism project.
