An additional cruise liner has arrived in the Maldives carrying nearly 2,000 tourists, marking another call during the ongoing cruise season.
The vessel, AIDAdiva, arrived in Malé from Colombo, Sri Lanka. According to the Maldives Association for Yacht Agents, the ship will remain in the country for two days.
AIDAdiva measures 251 metres in length and 37 metres in width. It is carrying 1,918 passengers and 630 crew members.
The arrival follows a visit on Saturday by another cruise liner operated by Cunard, the first cruise line to bring one of its ships to the Maldives. That vessel docked in Malé with more than 2,600 tourists on board and departed later the same day at 18:00.
With the commencement of the cruise liner season, local agents responsible for attracting cruise ships have expressed concern over what they describe as insufficient facilities and infrastructure to adequately accommodate disembarking passengers. They have indicated that improvements are needed to ensure visitors receive appropriate services during their stay in the capital.
