Air Arabia, the low-cost carrier based in the United Arab Emirates, will increase its flights to the Maldives later this year in response to rising demand.
The airline, which began operating scheduled flights to the Maldives on 27 October 2024, currently runs one daily service between Sharjah International Airport and Velana International Airport.
According to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the airline plans to operate two daily flights on the route starting from 27 October 2025. The move comes as the Maldives experiences a steady increase in tourist arrivals this year.
The Maldives remains a popular destination among international travellers, with the government targeting 2.3 million tourist arrivals in 2025. More than one million tourists have already visited the country this year. Several international airlines have responded to the surge in demand by increasing flight frequencies to the island nation.
