The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has said allegations made against Acting Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry have not been proven.
The allegations relate to an incident last year involving Farhad’s son. It was claimed that after his son was arrested for assaulting a police officer while under the influence of alcohol, Farhad attempted to use his official influence to secure his son’s release.
The accusations began circulating widely on social media following Farhad’s appointment as Acting Commissioner of Police.
The matter had also been raised previously in a whistle-blower report submitted to parliament. In November last year, 11 police officers above the rank of Chief Inspector sent a report to the Parliament’s National Security Services Committee, commonly known as the 241 Committee.
The report contained allegations against Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan and Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, including the claims related to the incident involving Farhad’s son.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office on Thursday, Ihusaan said relevant authorities had investigated the claims against the acting commissioner.
He said no regulatory or legal action had been taken against Farhad by any institution and that the matter had been concluded.
“The case has been closed with the determination that the allegations against him were not proven,” the minister said.
Ihusaan added that the government would investigate any allegations raised against individuals and take action where necessary.
However, he said the government would also ensure that individuals are not subjected to unfair or unjust treatment if allegations against them are found to be unsubstantiated.
