Ameer Ahmed Preschool has partnered with Aged Care Maldives to create a community-focused initiative aimed at fostering intergenerational bonds. The collaboration opened the school’s doors to grandparents and elderly members, transforming the preschool into a space where different generations can connect, learn, and grow together.

A social event held yesterday at the school titled “Dhulhaheyo Sihhathakah” kicked off this initiative of bringing together three generations, filled with health and well-being exercises, awareness sessions, and group activities. The school also confirmed that they are aiming to have such events monthly.

By opening its doors to the school’s grandparents community, Ameer Ahmed Preschool embarks on a new chapter geared towards increasing community engagement and fostering socialization among the elderly but also strengthening intergenerational bonds. This initiative provides a practical example of how educational facilities can serve the wider community and better utilise its facilities.

Principal Ahlam expressed her enthusiasm about the project’s potential, stating, “this collaboration with Aged Care Maldives is just the beginning. We envision Ameer Ahmed Preschool as a space where the whole community can come together. We are eager to explore similar partnerships and invite other NGOs and community groups who share our vision to join us in this endeavour. It’s vital for our elderly to have a welcoming space to gather and connect, and this initiative fulfils that need beautifully.”

Echoing the sentiment, a spokesperson from Aged Care Maldives praised the initiative by Ameer Ahmed Preschool which has set an example of how schools can play a critical role in the community beyond the educational spectrum.

Parents have also voiced their support for the initiative. One parent shared, “it’s truly special to have a place where three generations can come together. It fills a void in our community, bringing us closer and weaving a tighter social fabric.”
