Amendment Proposed to Land Act to Expedite Handover Process

An amendment seeking to amend the Land Act has been introduced in Parliament with the aim of expediting the handover of land to beneficiaries identified under the Binveriya scheme.
The amendment, presented by South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, proposes the addition of a new article to the existing legislation.

According to the provisions outlined in the amendment, land designated for beneficiaries under the Binveriya scheme must be handed over within three months of the bill coming into force. The legislation addresses concerns raised by the previous government regarding the delay in transferring land to listed beneficiaries.
The Binveriya scheme, initiated by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih towards the end of his term, experienced a pause following his electoral defeat and the subsequent change in government.
