ACC Urges Strict Adherence to Guidelines Amidst Concerns of Post-Election Decisions
In an official statement released by the Anti-Corruption Commission on October 2, 2023, the Commission addressed concerns related to post-presidential election developments. The Commission has reported an increase in complaints related to purported emergency decisions that have the potential to facilitate corrupt activities as the incoming government prepares to assume power.
The Commission emphasises the significance of adhering strictly to the established procedures as follows:
Project Initiation: Government offices, institutions, and state-owned entities are advised to refrain from commencing entirely new projects.
Financial Prudence: It is recommended that responsible authorities exercise fiscal prudence by avoiding decisions that may lead to corruption in spending or unnecessary expenditures. Decisions should align with essential and planned requirements.
Budget Compliance: Signing contracts for projects that have not been budgeted or planned should be avoided.
Corruption Vigilance: When there is a suspicion that a decision may lead to corrupt practices, it is advisable to abstain from such actions.
Document Security: Ensuring the security and preservation of documents about financial matters, business operations, and transactions is paramount. Removal or tampering with such documents is discouraged.
Responsibility of Officials: Individuals holding positions of responsibility within government offices, corporations, and institutions should be particularly attentive to the aforementioned guidelines.
