Applications have opened for couples seeking public health insurance coverage under Aasandha to undergo In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment through the state-run Fertility Care Fund.

In a statement issued on Monday, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) said that 50 couples who attain the highest scores will be eligible for coverage under this year’s scheme. Applications can be submitted through the government portal from 20 November to 20 December.

Aasandha was expanded to include IVF early last year. A total of 100 couples were selected in the first round, with 93 undergoing treatment, of whom 23 successfully conceived.

The introduction of Aasandha coverage for IVF and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) was one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledges, which he committed to deliver within the first 14 weeks of his term.

IVF services covered under the scheme are currently available at Tree Top Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Dharumavantha Hospital.

The policy governing the provision of IVF and IUI treatment under Aasandha is available on the NSPA website.
