The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that applications are now open for the position of Commissioner of Police, with a deadline set for 12pm on 2 June.

Eligibility for the role is limited to officers holding the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or higher. The final appointment will be made by the President, based on the advice of the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology.

The position became vacant following the resignation of former Commissioner Ali Shujau last month. His departure followed widespread public criticism of the police’s handling of an incident involving a 21-year-old woman who fell from a building on 18 April.

In the immediate aftermath of the resignation, Assistant Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry was named Acting Commissioner. However, the decision was revised within an hour, and Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen was subsequently appointed to the role.
