The Asia Media Summit has concluded in the Maldives following three days of discussions on the future of media, broadcasting and digital transformation.
Held under the theme “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech”, the summit took place at Villa Nautica from 11 to 13 May. The event was jointly organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and Public Service Media.
More than 300 delegates attended the summit, with around 80 percent of participants travelling from overseas.
The programme featured eight plenary sessions, including a ministerial-level discussion focused on public media policy. Discussions during the summit centred on issues affecting media organisations in small island nations, the opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence in media, digital transformation in broadcasting and the role of youth in shaping the future of the industry.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the “Maldives 2.0 Declaration” and the presentation of an outcome report. South Korea was also announced as the host country for the 2027 Asia Media Summit.
During the closing ceremony, Public Service Media received a Special Award for Media Excellence in recognition of its contribution to media development.
On the sidelines of the summit, PSM held meetings with several international media organisations and regional representatives to discuss technical cooperation, content exchange, staff training and capacity-building initiatives.
Meetings were held with representatives from RT and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.
PSM was represented at the meetings by Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb and Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yamin.
The discussions included meetings with RT Head of Creative Projects Boris Gorlov, BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey, Nalinda Japatissa, President of the AIBD General Conference and Director General of Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department Sudruetai Lertkasem, and Head of Arab and International Cooperation’s Unit Feten Fradi.
