Self-service banking ATMs have been introduced in ten additional islands of Shaviyani Atoll, completing ATM coverage across all residential islands in the atoll.

The new installations were carried out by the Bank of Maldives (BML) under its Mulhi Raajje ah ATM initiative, launched in 2024 with the aim of providing ATM services to every inhabited island in the country by the end of this year. The project has also seen the expansion of services to all residential islands in Noonu and Meemu atolls.

According to officials, the initiative is designed to address the growing demand for financial access within island communities. The aim is to reduce reliance on branch visits by offering essential banking services directly through the ATM network.

Usage of the self-service network continues to grow, with over MVR 1.45 billion deposited via atoll-based ATMs this year alone. The increasing volume of transactions outside Malé underscores the importance of accessible financial services across the country.

In addition to the expanding physical network—which currently includes 39 branches across all 20 atolls, 133 self-service banking centres, and 188 ATMs—ongoing investments are being made in digital platforms and partner services to further support customer needs.
