The scholarship certificates were presented at a special ceremony by Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham, who is also an alumna of an Australian university.
According to the Australian High Commission in the Maldives, the students will begin their studies next year across various fields, including finance, economics, social work, law, cyber security, policy studies, development studies, and oceanography. The High Commission highlighted a significant increase in the number of scholarships for Maldivian students, rising from eight in 2022 to 20 this year.
The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the Vibrant Maldives Australia Alumni Association.
Since the 1960s, more than 750 Maldivian students have pursued higher education in Australia through scholarships and self-funded study.
