Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution regarding scams involving the sale of stalls for events in Hulhumalé.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) reported receiving complaints about individuals and groups offering stalls for fairs and other events without the corporation’s approval. The public has been advised to verify authorisation before making any payments by contacting HDC’s Permits and Services Section at 3336112.

HDC emphasised that it will not be held responsible for any financial losses resulting from the purchase of stalls for unapproved events. The corporation noted that the allocation of venues for fairs, night markets, and street markets in Hulhumalé has been suspended since 14 May.

The warning follows a similar notice issued by HDC in September, which cautioned against unauthorised events and urged the public to remain alert to potential scams.
