Azim Secures MDP Nomination for Male’ Mayoral Election

Former Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim, has officially secured the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket for the upcoming Male’ mayoral by-election, having faced no opposition in the race.

In a statement released yesterday, the main opposition party declared that only one candidate had submitted applications for each of the four seats. Consequently, these candidates will be granted the party’s ticket without the need for a primary.

The three additional candidates who have also confirmed their tickets are as follows:

Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed for the Central Henveiru seat

Hawwa Nil’ha for the South Henveiru seat

Ahmed Imran for the South Machangolhi seat

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that the Male’ city council by-elections are scheduled to take place on January 13.

In addition to the Male’ mayoral by-election, the ECM will oversee by-elections to elect an official for V. Rakeedhoo Council and officials for women’s development committees in 18 islands on the same day.
