Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) mayoral candidate Adam Azim has asserted that the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is committed to preventing beneficiaries of the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya scheme from facing homelessness.
During a campaign rally held last night to inaugurate Azim’s bid for the upcoming by-election to select the new mayor of the Male’ city, Azim pledged to take all necessary measures within the legal framework to secure land and flats for those who acquired them under the aforementioned scheme.
Azim, expressed his determination to address the housing issue in the Male’ city, emphasising that he had witnessed the challenges faced by residents during his door-to-door campaign.
The statement follows developments where the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) halted the announcement of the first 4,000 flat beneficiaries listed by the previous government. The current administration has also indicated a lack of recognition for flats allocated before the first round of the last presidential election.
Highlighting the government’s priorities, he emphasised the need to focus on developing areas that have already undergone excavation, advocating for the construction of essential infrastructure such as water, sewerage, electricity, roads, hospitals, mosques, and schools in dry lands.
