Former Home Minister Azleen Ahmed has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the Jumhoory Party (JP).

This role was previously held by former Kelaa MP Ali Arif, who has denied reports suggesting his resignation from JP. Arif clarified that he had initiated the handover process to facilitate Azleen’s transition into the position of the party’s secretary-general.

Azleen Ahmed’s political journey has seen him serve as the Home Minister during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

However, following Yameen’s re-election defeat in 2018, Azleen left the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and subsequently joined the Jumhoory Party in 2019.
