Baa Atoll Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Freedive Maldives to organise a record-breaking diving event as part of World Tourism Day celebrations.
The event, named “Baani”, is scheduled to take place on 3 October in the Angafaru area of Baa Atoll. It aims to bring together around a thousand participants for a simultaneous dive in an attempt to secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Open to participants from across the Maldives, the event will include divers from islands and resorts within the atoll. The initiative seeks to raise awareness about environmental conservation while promoting Baa Atoll as a tourist destination.
Baa Atoll Council has described the event as the largest of its kind to be organised in the atoll. The council also intends to collaborate with the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve as a partner in the activity.
