BCC Managing Director Ibrahim Ziyaau Mohamed signed the agreement on behalf of the corporation, while Fuvahmulah Mayor Ismail Rafeeq represented the city council. The initiative forms part of the government’s strategy to facilitate creativity and innovation nationwide, addressing societal challenges through artistic and innovative solutions.
In pursuit of this vision, BCC has committed to extensive consultations with artists across the country. Through creative confluences, the organisation aims to gather insights and feedback to shape initiatives supporting the creative economy.
The creator hub in Fuvahmulah will be one of several planned centres, complementing the primary Creator Hub already established in Malé. These hubs will serve as resource points for artists, providing essential infrastructure and support to nurture talent in different regions.
President Muizzu’s Creative Economy Strategy, outlined in his manifesto, spans five years and seeks to integrate creativity into education systems, offer incubation services, and provide resources for artists and professionals. The roadmap encompasses initiatives ranging from introducing creative programmes in schools and higher education to supporting aspiring artists across various disciplines.
Central to this strategy is the Creative Economy Fund, designed to empower individuals entering creative industries. The fund initially focuses on filmmaking, music production, arts and crafts, and digital content creation. From 2025, additional sectors will become eligible for funding, further diversifying the opportunities available to Maldivian artists.
