Land recipients under the Binveriyaa scheme have been granted a five-year period to let go of their previous land holdings, as announced by State Minister Akram Kamaluddin, yesterday.

The Binveriyaa scheme, designed as part of the government’s housing policy, has provided 19,639 individuals with the opportunity to acquire land, according to the government.

Under the scheme, a total of 9,001 plots of land have been allocated across various locations, including 1,351 plots in Hulhumale, 2,218 plots in Gulhifalhu, and 5,432 plots in Giraavarufalhu. Of these, 1250 sq. ft., 1650 sq. ft. and 2050 sq. ft. plots will be given in Hulhumale, Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu and Lands ranging from 2450 sq. ft. to 4000 sq. ft. will be allocated in Hulhumale and Gulhifalhu.

The change in the implementation timeline pertains to recipients who already owned land prior to being granted land through the Binveriyaa scheme. Previously, individuals were required to initiate the legal process for vacating their existing land within three months from the date of signing.

However, this has now been revised, and landowners are expected to vacate their previous holdings within five years from the date of signing.

Akram Kamaluddin explained that the decision to extend the timeline was made to accommodate land recipients who may need more time to transition from their previous properties.

The government is currently in the process of handing over the land registry to individuals who have benefited from the Binveriyaa scheme.
