Bloomberg initiative launches grants programme, calling for proposals on tobacco control improvements

Applications have opened for the Bloomberg Initiative Grants Programme, which invites proposals aimed at strengthening tobacco control measures.

The initiative is a joint effort between the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Funded by philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg, the programme seeks to reduce tobacco consumption in low- and middle-income countries through a range of global grant activities.

The Health Protection Authority (HPA) announced that submissions are now being accepted for the 39th round of the grants programme. Proposals must be submitted online through the official programme website.

According to the HPA, priority will be given to proposals that are designed to achieve significant policy progress and systemic improvements in tobacco control. Particular emphasis will be placed on projects supporting the enforcement of tobacco advertising bans, measures related to tobacco pricing and taxation, and evidence-based technical recommendations.

The HPA also noted that proposals aimed at strengthening the implementation of smoking bans in public places will receive special consideration.

The deadline for submitting applications is Wednesday, 25 February.
