President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced yesterday that the overseas point-of-sale transaction limit for Bank of Maldives’ (BML) debit card transactions will be increased to USD 1,000 from November 11 onwards.
President Muizzu announced this while speaking to the residents of Muli, Meemu Atoll, last evening, on his ongoing tour of four atolls, including Meemu Atoll. The current cap on debit card transactions is USD 500.
He also said the limit for purchasing airline tickets and making payments to hotels abroad will increase to USD 3,000 from that date onwards. Patients travelling overseas for medical treatment may also request the bank to process payments using their debit cards.

Additionally, President Muizzu unveiled this administration’s plan to install US dollar ATMs on 40 islands across the Maldives. He instructed BML to oversee the project, which will include the seven designated urban centres and other islands currently without US dollar ATMs. Islands experiencing rapid growth in local tourism will also be prioritised.
He said BML aims to complete the USD ATM installation project within the first quarter of next year.
