The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that Phase Two of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project has reached 82 per cent completion.

In a post shared on X, MTCC said that major components of the project have now been completed, including reclamation works, sheet piling, panel installation, dewatering provisions, construction of stormwater catchpits, cable junctions, and laying of wastewater and water main pipelines.

The company said final concrete works for the quay wall capping are scheduled for completion today.

According to MTCC, construction is currently underway on curb stones, settlement tanks, and concrete works for water and cable trenches. Road sub-base works and preparations for asphalt paving are expected to begin later this week.

The local market road project involves paving a 250-metre stretch from the local market area to the North Harbour. The scope of work includes extending the canal to six metres and widening the road. Once completed, roads in the market area will be reconfigured to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, introduce modern road infrastructure, and provide a long-term solution to flooding.

Overall, the project spans 1,088 metres, running from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour. The first phase, covering 140 metres, has already been completed. The government has said the project is expected to ease congestion in the commercial port area and improve the transportation of goods.
