The victim, identified as AbduRahman of Orchidmaage, Maalhos, was discovered with severe head injuries in his bedroom at around 1:50 a.m. He was rushed to the local health centre but died shortly afterwards in the early hours of the morning.
His body was transported to Malé yesterday, accompanied by several family members. However, the family has expressed their preference for a swift burial and voiced opposition to the autopsy. They have stated their intention not to obstruct the investigation, but remain concerned that a post-mortem may cause further harm to the body.
Local residents have not raised any suspicions regarding the incident and maintain that Maalhos is a peaceful island with no recent history of serious crime. At present, police have not disclosed any information about potential suspects or motives. AbduRahman’s residence remains cordoned off as part of the investigative process.
AbduRahman, a father of three, lived with his wife at her family home in Maalhos. His children currently reside in Malé.
