Chief of Defense Abdul Raheem Attains the Rank of Lieutenant General

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the promotion of Chief of Defense Force Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General, in a ceremony held at the Bandaara Koshi today.

The promotion makes Abdul Raheem the third Maldivian military officer in the country’s history to attain the rank of Lieutenant General. This significant achievement follows his appointment as the Chief of Defense Force, succeeding Lieutenant General (Retired) Abdulla Shamaal.

The ceremony, attended by Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon, marks a significant milestone in Abdul Raheem’s illustrious military career, highlighting his commitment and contributions to the nation’s defense.

Throughout his dedicated service, Abdul Raheem has received numerous accolades, including the Presidential Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Dedicated Service Medal, Defense Force Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 3rd November Medal, and the Centenary Medal.

Abdul Raheem’s diverse career includes appointments such as Vice Chief of Defense Force, command roles in the Special Protection Group, MNDF Southern Area, the Military Police, the Media and Publishing Service, the Ordnance Service, and the Communication Electronics and Information Technology Service.

Additionally, he has served as the Spokesperson for MNDF, Vice Chairperson of MNDF Welfare Governing Board, and Chairperson of the Grievance Board.
