Child health services began today at the Urban Primary Health Care Centre in Maafannu, Malé, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The centre, which opened last month, is providing services including vitamin A supplementation, growth monitoring, and infant feeding counselling. These services are available from Sunday to Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., as well as on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Vaccination services are also being offered at the clinic, although these are available by appointment only.

The Urban Primary Health Care Centre is located in the Coral Boulevard building, which was originally developed near Rasfannu Beach during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The facility was officially opened on November 19 by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

At the inauguration ceremony, Male’ Hospitals Group Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem stated that the centre is intended to improve public access to health services. He noted that the clinic will provide general practitioner services to a broad range of patients, with assessments carried out by trained general practitioners and referrals made to specialists when necessary.

He also said that the clinic’s system has been designed to streamline the referral process and enhance access to specialist care.

The government has announced plans to establish six general practice clinics across the capital region, including three additional clinics in Malé and one in Hulhumalé.
