China Donates Computers to Support Maldives’ Digital Development
The Chinese government has donated 80 desktop computers and 20 laptops, all Lenovo-branded, to the Maldives.
The donation was formalised in an agreement signed between the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives.

Representing the Maldivian government, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel signed the agreement, while Ambassador Wang Lixin signed on behalf of China.
During the signing ceremony, Minister Khaleel expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasising that the equipment would significantly aid the development of the Maldives’ technical sector.
He noted that China’s support plays an essential role in enhancing digital services available to Maldivians and described the donation as a testament to the strong and enduring ties between the two nations. Minister Khaleel also acknowledged China’s ongoing assistance across various fields and conveyed appreciation for the longstanding partnership.
Ambassador Wang Lixin highlighted the mutual respect defining the Maldives-China relationship. He noted China’s contributions to the Maldives over the years and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Maldivian development.
The Ambassador also announced future support initiatives, including plans to send 1,000 Maldivian civil servants to China for training across diverse fields, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
