China Donates Stormwater Pumps to Maldives Government

China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has donated six stormwater pumps to the Government of Maldives to support flood management efforts in the Greater Malé region today.

The official handover ceremony took place at Hulhumalé Central Park, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in attendance. Upon arrival, the President was welcomed by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib.

According to the President’s Office, Liu Xiaoda, Deputy General Manager of CMEC, formally handed over the pumps, which were received on behalf of the Maldivian government by the Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassaan Maumoon.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure said the donated pumps will be used to enhance stormwater drainage and mitigate flooding in the capital area.

The ceremony was also attended by H.E. Kong Xianhua, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, and senior officials from CMEC.
