China Embassy Urges Maldives to Investigate False News Reports
The Chinese embassy in the Maldives has raised concerns regarding the dissemination of false media reports aimed at tarnishing China’s reputation. In response, they have called upon the Maldivian authorities to conduct an investigation into media outlets that are spreading inaccurate information.
We noticed some vicious attacks against China by a few media persons, which are totally fabricated only to smear China and undermine 🇨🇳🇲🇻 friendly relations. It's believed that the Maldivian people will not be misled by the fake news. pic.twitter.com/w4dSz5142G

In a statement released on Sunday, the embassy emphasised China’s commitment to a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations. The statement highlighted China’s efforts in the Maldives, focusing on their role in supporting economic and social development, which has greatly benefited the local population.
The embassy also noted that there have been “vicious attacks against China by a few media persons,” which they believe are entirely fabricated to denigrate China and undermine the friendly relations between China and the Maldives.
In light of these concerns, the embassy has formally requested that Maldivian authorities conduct a thorough investigation into those responsible for disseminating false information. They expressed confidence that attempts to undermine the strong friendship between the Maldives and China would ultimately fail.
The Chinese embassy expressed their belief that the people of the Maldives would not be misled by such false news.
This appeal by the Chinese embassy follows a similar request made by the Indian High Commission less than a week ago.
