China’s Fujian Province has donated a large consignment of sports equipment to the Maldives as part of ongoing cooperation in the field of sports.

The handover ceremony was held yesterday at Henveiru Boalhage, where the Ambassador of China to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, presented the donation on behalf of Fujian Province. The items were received by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu.
The donation included footballs, bags, caps, tracksuits, socks, and men’s sportswear such as shorts and t-shirts.
The gesture follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in February between the Maldives and the Sports Bureau of Fujian Province. The agreement includes joint training programmes, player and team development, and capacity-building in sports-related fields. It also provides training for coaches, referees, umpires, and medical officials, as well as awareness initiatives on prohibited substances in sports. In addition, the MoU aims to create more opportunities for Maldivian players and teams to compete internationally.
This is the second time Fujian Province has donated sports equipment to the Maldives this year. Previous donations have included athletics, table tennis and football equipment. China has also provided support for training volleyball and basketball coaches and players, along with capacity-building in sports medicine.
