Chinese and Malaysian investors have been briefed on investment opportunities in the Maldives during a meeting held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

The ministry stated that discussions focused on strategic opportunities for investment and partnership across key growth sectors in the country. Information was also shared on the Maldives’ regulatory framework for doing business, alongside ongoing efforts to create a more conducive environment for investors.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to attract foreign investment and strengthen economic collaboration. Officials highlighted recent steps taken to modernise the country’s foreign investment framework, including amendments to legislation and the introduction of supporting policies.

The government has indicated that these changes are aimed at aligning the Maldives with internationally accepted investment standards. Amendments to the Foreign Investment Act are expected to enhance investor protection and improve confidence in the business environment.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has previously stated that the revised framework will provide stronger safeguards for investors and support sustainable economic growth.
