Chinese Ambassador Kong Xianhua attended the event alongside representatives from the United Nations and the library. He said the occasion, which coincides with “Grain Rain” in Chinese culture, highlights the historical link between seasonal traditions and the development of Chinese characters.
He added that Chinese writing has carried ideas and wisdom across generations for more than 3,000 years, expressing hope that the donated books will encourage greater interest among Maldivians in learning about China and the Chinese language.
