Chinese Gov’t Donates Street Lights to Guraidhoo Island Council

The Chinese government has donated 100 street lights to the Guraidhoo Island Council.

The donation was officially presented by China’s Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, during a ceremony attended by government officials.

Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, accepted the donation on behalf of the Maldivian government. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Wang highlighted the enduring ties between the Maldives and China, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to supporting the development and welfare of Maldivians.

Minister of State for Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Moosa Fathuhee Adam, also addressed the ceremony, stressing the government’s determination to tackle challenges faced by local councils. He expressed gratitude for China’s continued support, which he said bolstered efforts to implement key development initiatives.

The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives has confirmed that the street lights are expected to arrive by the end of this year or early next year, with measures in place to expedite the shipment.

This donation reflects the growing cooperation between the two countries and aims to enhance infrastructure and services at the local level in the Maldives.
