The agreement was formalised with the signing ceremony attended by representatives from both parties. City Council’s Secretary General, Wajeeh Naseer, endorsed the agreement on behalf of the authority, while Mohamed Aiman, Director of Haiman Construction, signed on behalf of the contracting company.
Under the terms of the agreement, the contractor is mandated to conclude the project within a two-month timeframe.
The renovation and redevelopment of Aasaharaa, Male’ City’s primary cemetery, commenced in May of the preceding year. Consequently, funeral services within the Greater Male’ Area were temporarily relocated to the Hulhumale’ cemetery.
Following the inability of the initial contractor to meet the project deadline as stipulated in the September 2023 agreement, the initiative was opened for competitive bidding in November of the same year.
Upon completion of the redevelopment, the cemetery is expected to feature several enhancements, including a designated prayer area for women situated on the first floor of the mosque, relocation of the ambulance entrance to the rear gate, and the addition of three VIP-level lounges atop the funeral home, each capable of accommodating up to 35 individuals.
Noteworthy amenities within these lounges will include two toilets per lounge, as well as dedicated spaces for breastfeeding mothers. Furthermore, provisions have been made for a designated toilet catering to individuals with special needs.
