Commissioner of Police Hameed Retires

In a formal ceremony held at the Iskandharu Building, today, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed officially retired from the Maldives Police Service (MPS). 

The retirement event was inaugurated by Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdullah.

Hameed assumed the role of Commissioner of Police on 26 March 2019, following a period as the Acting Commissioner of Police. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed him to the position.

Solih expressed gratitude towards Hameed for his dedicated service and took to Twitter to commend his tireless efforts in upholding security in the Maldives. 

Solih specifically acknowledged Hameed’s significant role in transforming the MPS into a modern professional entity aligned with international practices and democratic principles.

During the retirement ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdullah highlighted Hameed’s efforts to enhance the international standing of the police service. 

He spoke of the challenges involved in leading a police force and emphasised Hameed’s instrumental role in preparing the force for the future.

In his remarks, Hameed expressed appreciation for the courage and determination exhibited by every police officer under his leadership.

As a token of appreciation, Hameed was presented with a plaque of honour, a retirement card, and the police flag. A video presentation showcased the contributions made by Hameed throughout his tenure, emphasising his dedication and service to the police force.

The retirement ceremony was attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, police officials, diplomats, United States Representatives in the Maldives, representatives of foreign law enforcement agencies, police executive officers, commissioned officers, and family members of the retiring Commissioner.
