President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said today that he is committed to strengthening the decentralised system and will continue the work already underway regarding this endeavour.
“I will continue the work I started to make the decentralised system a reality, having travelled to the islands, listened to the council’s voices clearly, met with the citizens closely, and seen the reality of the situation with my eyes, in sha Allah,” President Muizzu said in a post on X, in Dhivehi.

In the post on X, marking Decentralisation Day, President Muizzu reiterated the government’s commitment to working closely with citizens to achieve meaningful empowerment. He highlighted ongoing efforts to address community challenges through island visits, council consultations, and direct citizen engagement.
According to the President’s Office, his visits reflect his dedication to understanding local concerns firsthand, and he intends to visit every inhabited island twice during his term.
Observed on 26 February, Decentralisation Day commemorates the implementation of the Maldives’ decentralised governance system across its administrative regions.
