Practical work has commenced on the development of a 50-unit housing project in Madaveli, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, as part of ongoing efforts to address housing needs in the island community.
The project was awarded to Mims Construction Pvt Ltd on 6 November 2025 and was officially inaugurated by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. The ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of Mims Construction Pvt Ltd, Saudulla Hilmy, along with members of the Madaveli Council.
According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the development will consist of 50 three-bedroom housing units and is scheduled for completion within 450 days.
The project forms part of broader government efforts to improve housing conditions across the Maldives, particularly in outer islands.
During an earlier community outreach visit, President Mohamed Muizzu had identified housing as a key priority for Madaveli, alongside land reclamation and shore protection. He had assured residents that practical work on these initiatives would commence, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing housing challenges on the island.
