The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has awarded the contract for the development of a new harbour in Nadella, located in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, to Heavy Force Private Limited.

The agreement was signed by Minister Abdullah Muththalib on behalf of the Ministry, and Managing Director Ibrahim Zameer on behalf of Heavy Force Pvt Ltd.
The project involves extensive dredging and land reclamation works. This includes the excavation of 82,080 cubic metres of sand from the island’s lagoon to form the new harbour basin. An additional 19,600 cubic metres will be dredged to create a new canal, while 3,900 cubic metres will be removed from the existing basin and 16,000 cubic metres from the existing canal. In total, 48,850 cubic metres of land will be reclaimed under the project.
Key infrastructure elements include 277.7 metres of revetment, 105 metres of canal footing, 17 metres of breakwater and 188 metres of groynes. The project will also see the construction of a 534-metre quay wall and an equal length of scouring apron.
Additional components include the installation of 10 mooring buoys, six canal lights, 18 harbour lights, an 11-metre ramp and the paving of 2,660 square metres.
