Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure has announced that construction of the remaining portion of Ameenee Magu will commence next month, following the conclusion of the second round of the presidential election.
State Minister Akram Kamaludheen revealed that the decision to proceed with the final segment of the new road project was made in the wake of the presidential election held on the 9th of this month. However, construction work is set to resume only after the completion of the second round of elections on the 30th of this month, as per Akram’s statement.
The construction process had been temporarily halted when the roadwork reached the vicinity of the Housing Ministry, primarily to prevent inconvenience to the public during the polling day.
A small section of the road which is one of the busiest points, will be paved next. This area notably houses the ferry terminal, located at the junction of the IGMH outer road.
Akram emphasised that measures would be taken to minimise disruptions to the general public as construction resumes on the remaining stretch of Ameenee Magu.
Previously, the Planning Ministry had outlined that the Ameenee Magu project, which has a budget of MVR 84 million allocated from the state funds, was scheduled for completion by September. The construction initiative had commenced in October of the previous year.
