The contract has been awarded to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The agreement was signed by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim on behalf of the Ministry, and HDC Managing Director Mohamed Mauroof Jameel.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the design phase of the nursery has already been completed. The facility will span 55,000 square feet and will include a laboratory, training rooms, office space and a greenhouse. It is intended to produce the trees required for the nationwide planting initiative and will remain operational under HDC’s supervision even after the programme concludes.
The five million tree planting programme has so far received 6.6 million pledges. The Ministry is planning to conduct tree planting activities on all inhabited islands across the country.
