The Civil Court has ordered Kingston Holdings Maldives to pay more than MVR 1.5 million to the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) in connection with a motorcycle fraud case.

Court documents show that MIB paid Kingston MVR 1,143,621.19 for motorbikes on behalf of customers who applied for financing through the bank, based on quotes provided by the company. However, the bank claimed Kingston failed to deliver the vehicles to the customers.

The dispute dates back to last year, when several customers accused Kingston of taking payments for motorcycles but not supplying them. Many had been waiting for months, leading to a protest inside the company’s outlet. At the time, Kingston attributed the delays to shipment issues, while police launched an investigation and urged affected customers to report their cases.

The court said it had made several attempts to summon a representative from Kingston, but these were unsuccessful. The verdict was therefore delivered in the company’s absence.

In its ruling on Thursday, the Civil Court ordered Kingston to repay the principal amount to MIB within six months, along with MVR 369,145.87 in compensation.

Police have not announced any criminal charges in relation to the case.
