Maldives Immigration has processed a total of 1,045 passengers and crew members from the first cruise liner to arrive this tourist season, which began in October.

The vessel, arriving from Port Louis in Mauritius, carried 649 passengers and 396 crew members, and was cleared by officers from the Seaport Division. The arrival also marked the first Seaport en-route clearance from Mauritius for the Maldives.

Despite the successful clearance, logistical challenges continue to affect cruise tourism operations in Malé. The Maldives Association of Yacht Agents highlighted earlier that there is no dedicated location in the capital for disembarkation. At present, permissions are limited to Jetty No. 1 and the Fishermen’s Park area, though both sites are undergoing renovation.

According to the association, Jetty No. 1 has been closed, while launches from the atolls are currently using Fishermen’s Park. This has resulted in heavy traffic and congestion in the area due to the number of parked vehicles.
