In a post shared on the social media platform X, Customs announced that the new deadline for excluding products containing tobacco and devices used for smoking from duty exemption is now 1st November.

Previously, the deadline had been set for today. The reasons for the postponement have not yet been disclosed.

In an interview with State media PSM, Customs Deputy Chief Superintendent Ahmed Niyaz mentioned that two significant changes would be implemented under the amendments to the general regulations.

One of these changes involves removing duty exemption from certain types of goods imported to the Maldives. Niyaz specifically listed energy drinks, vape products, and cigarettes as items that will no longer be exempt from duty.

The other change is that goods brought in for personal use up to MVR 10,000 will continue to be exempt from duty charges.
