Customs Seizes 3.5 Kilograms of Drugs

The Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.5 kilograms of drugs in two separate incidents involving air transport.
The seizures were made from an air cargo shipment and a passenger arriving in the Maldives on Monday. According to Customs, the first seizure took place when a cargo shipment arriving via air transport was inspected, resulting in the discovery of 3.01 kilograms of heroin.
On the same day, a Maldivian passenger on a Malaysian Airlines flight was found to be carrying 48 grams of heroin, 315 grams of methamphetamine, and 215 grams of synthetic cathinone.
Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of three different types of drugs in both cases. The total weight of the confiscated substances amounts to 3.588 kilograms.
Customs stated that both the drugs and the passenger had been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
Drug-related crimes continue to be a significant social issue in the Maldives. According to statistics from the Maldives Police Service, 1,160 drug-related cases have been reported so far this year.
