Customs Seizes Drugs Worth Nearly MVR 1 Million

The Maldives Customs Service announced the confiscation of drugs valued at approximately MVR 987,500, intercepted while being smuggled into the country.

Customs revealed the seizure of 395 grams of cocaine discovered in a package sent via courier. The suspicious package was flagged during routine checks, with preliminary tests confirming the presence of the illicit substance.

Customs officials also confirmed the arrest of a local male suspect in connection with the case. The individual was handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.

This incident follows a larger drug bust on 24 November, when Maldivian security forces intercepted 468.6 kilograms of drugs smuggled by sea, carrying an estimated street value of MVR 1 billion.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to eliminate drugs from the Maldives, making this a key focus of his administration.
