The Maldives Customs Service introduced a policy today to disclose the names of businesses and individuals who fail to settle their dues within the stipulated timeframe.
Under Article 5 of the Customs Act, the policy applies to unpaid amounts exceeding MVR 10,000. Before publication, Customs will follow a series of formalities, including notifying the concerned parties in writing via letters, email, or the customs portal.
Information to be disclosed includes the full name of the individual or business, customs registration number, permanent address, unpaid amount, currency, and, for businesses, the entity’s registration number.
According to the policy, the details will be published in the Government Gazette, on the Customs website, and on official social media channels. Publication will occur 15 days after notification if the dues remain unsettled, either in full or in instalments.
The policy excludes state institutions, majority government-owned companies, firms executing state projects, and deceased individuals with outstanding debt.
