The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has extended the deadline for beneficiaries of the Binnveriyaa housing scheme to schedule appointments for collecting their land registry documents and signing updated agreements.
The issuance of registries for plots allocated in Gulhifalhu began on 12 July. In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said individuals who have yet to complete the required procedures now have until next Thursday to request an appointment through the Hiyaa Portal.
Applicants are required to provide a copy of the National Identity Card of a witness, a copy of the previously signed housing agreement and the registration of the land initially issued. If a representative is completing the process on behalf of the recipient, a copy of the power of attorney and the attorney’s identity card—either court-registered or notarised—must also be submitted.
The ministry noted that appointment confirmations will be provided via SMS and the Shelter Portal.
According to the latest figures, 1,260 beneficiaries had received land registration under the project as of 28 August. The Binnveriyaa scheme commenced in July last year, with dredging works contracted to Dutch company Boskalis for USD 120 million (MVR 2 billion).
Although plot allocation was initially carried out through a lottery system by the former administration, the current government has since revised the land use plan twice. Registrations are now being processed based on a re-draw conducted on 30 May. The government also amended the original agreements to address legal concerns, requiring beneficiaries to undergo updated signing procedures and document submissions.
